This working group focuses on educating VG4A members and the public about our group, the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF), the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign (G2G), amazing grandmothers throughout Africa and the community-based organizations where they work.
Education members:
- Deliver presentations to community groups and give lessons in schools and colleges
- Prepare educational moments for our general meetings to increase awareness of the Campaign
- Create and maintain educational materials for displays, hand-outs and lending -- display boards, brochures, bookmarks, banners, videos, and DVDs.
- Host a Lending Library with lots of great fiction and non-fiction, no deadlines and no fines! VG4A Lending Library
- Set up tables at events and distribute educational materials
- Attend Welcome Gatherings to introduce the group to new members, provide a newcomers’ information package, and welcome newcomers at meetings
In 2024, The Education team facilitated presentations at Tapestry Victoria Harbour, Renaissance Retirement Home, the Victorian and the Cridge, and bead-making workshops at Hillcrest Elementary School, creating awareness of African grandmothers (and beautiful paper bead necklaces) with dozens of Victoria seniors and students.
